JONESBORO, AR (AP) - Craighead County Quorum Court members soon should know how much it will cost to finish the Bono Lake project.
Officials from Haywood Kenward Bare and Associates of Jonesboro have told the court that the lake site does not have enough impermeable soil to build the dam. Engineer Robert Hendrix says the site has soil that becomes unstable when it reacts with water.
He says ash will need to be mixed in with the dirt to make the soil less permeable. He says the site could require between 5,000 to 6,000 tons of ash, which costs about $26 per ton. But the site could need as much as 10,000 tons of ash.
Hendrix says the project likely won't be finished until next summer.
