LESLIE, Ark. -- At least nine students are reported injured in a school bus crashed on U.S. 65 near Leslie Wednesday.

The bus was carrying the students from the Clinton Public School District to a vocational-technical school. Assistant Superintendent Dwight Hutto says fewer than 20 students were aboard.

Two of the students were taken to Little Rock's Arkansas Children's Hospital and were listed in fair condition. Six more were in stable condition at Ozark Hospital Medical Center in Clinton.

And one student was listed in stable condition at North Arkansas Regional Medical at Harrison.

A sheriff's dispatcher says the accident occurred between Clinton and Leslie. The highway has sharp turns, steep inclines and, at times, runs along deep cuts that create steep rock walls.

Clinton Elementary principal Mark Gammill says the students were on their way to the vo-tech school at Leslie.

Witnesses said some of the injured appeared to be taken away in helicopters.

Hutto says the district is trying to contact parents.
