Abandoned house burns in Walnut Ridge

WALNUT RIDGE, AR (KAIT) - An abandoned house on Highway 412 and County Road 619 in Walnut ridge burned to the ground late Tuesday morning.

The Walnut Ridge Fire Department received a call at 11:30 a.m. regarding a structure fire. Two trucks were dispatched to the scene along with one water tanker truck from west Greene County.

The structure had completely burned by the time fire crews arrived, and firefighter only attempted to contain the fire to protect the surrounding heavily wooded area. Fire Chief Alan Haskins said upon further inspection, fire crews found that the home was actually an illegal dumping sight.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
