Harding's Stallings earns J.D. Jones Scholarship

SEARCY, Ark. (Harding) – Joey Stallings, a junior from Sugar Land, Texas, will receive the J.D. Jones Scholarship for the 2010 football season. The Jones family, including former Bison football players Rick, Randy and David Jones, funds the scholarship in honor of their father, J.D. The Harding football coaching staff selects the recipient each year, and the scholarship goes to a former walk-on.

Stallings played in two games on the defensive line last season, but moved to the offensive line during spring practice.

"Joey has always had an unbelievable work ethic," says Harding head coach Ronnie Huckeba. "I know the Jones family very well, and Mr. Jones always had a heart for the guy that overcame the odds. Joey has been one of our strongest kids in the weight room. He is tough. He has played with pain. He works hard in the classroom. No one more exemplifies what the J.D. Jones scholarship is all about."

Stallings came to Harding in 2007 and spent the season as a redshirt. He was on the squad in 2008, but did not see game action. His Bison debut came on the defensive line last season against Missouri Southern. He also played against West Alabama.

A mechanical engineering major at Harding, Stallings graduated from Dulles High School in Missouri City, Texas in 2007.
