MULBERRY, Ark. (AP) - Emergency crews rescued 13 swimmers who were trapped on an island by waters from the swollen Mulberry River in northwestern Arkansas.
Mulberry firefighters say the water rose about two feet Tuesday afternoon in a section known as Bluff Hole, about a mile east of Mulberry along U.S. 64.
Officials say rescue crews arrived around 3:30 p.m., but had to wait for the water to slow down before attempting a rescue.
Everyone had been removed safely by 6:30 p.m. There were no reports of injuries.
Storms dumped heavy rain north of the area Monday night, causing water to rush downstream.
