Central Arkansas' transition to Division I complete

CONWAY, Ark. (AP) - Central Arkansas' transition to Division I

is complete.

The school announced Friday that it has achieved "active

membership" in Division I after a five-year transition period. All

of its teams will be eligible for postseason play this fall both

nationally and in the Southland Conference.

Central Arkansas' football team, which plays in the Football

Championship Subdivision, finished atop the Southland in 2008 but

was not allowed to compete in the FCS playoffs.

Earlier this year, Central Arkansas hired former Arkansas star

Corliss Williamson as its basketball coach.
