NEWPORT, Ark. -- The Jackson County sheriff has asked the Arkansas State Police to investigate allegations of missing money in the sheriff's office after placing two employees on paid administrative leave.

Sheriff Jim Bishop said that because the allegations involved his office, his officers couldn't investigate.

State police Captain Mike Davidson, commander of the agency's criminal investigation division, confirmed that the agency had been asked by the sheriff and local prosecutors to investigate. He said the investigation will begin soon.
