Officer injured while chasing man with handgun

STEELE, MO (KAIT) – Steele Police say a police officer was injured while chasing a man with a gun on Tuesday.

After police arrived on Bates Street for a shots fired call, a 27-year-old male took off running. Sergeant Randy Trimm chased him on foot for several blocks. While trying to arrest the man, Trimm received minor injuries.

Trimm was the only Steele Officer on duty at the time, but was helped by off-duty Steele Officer Casey Greene and a volunteer Steele Fireman to get the man into custody.

The Pemiscot County Sheriff's Department helped process the scene and recovered the .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun that the suspect had thrown down during the chase.

The suspect is currently incarcerated at the Pemiscot County Jail and is charged with Felon in Possession of a Handgun, Armed Criminal Action, Resisting Arrest and Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer.

The suspect's name is being withheld pending formal charges with the Pemiscot County Prosecuting Attorney.
