GOP congressional candidate filed bankruptcy

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Bankruptcy court records show the Republican nominee to Congress in the 1st Congressional District filed for bankruptcy in 1994.

Rick Crawford of Jonesboro has made controlling federal spending a top issue in his campaign and says his experience gives him insight into the nation's financial challenges. The 44-year-old Crawford says he was living in Springfield, Mo., and working at an auto decal and sign shop and having financial difficulties.

Documents show he listed debts of $12,611.67 that included more than $7,500 in credit card debt and more than $4,200 in medical bills.  A spokesman for Democratic nominee Chad Causey called the bankruptcy "concerning" - but said it is something Crawford will have to discuss.
