26th A-State Golf Classic concludes Sunday in Hot Springs

Hot Springs (ASU) – The 26th annual A-State Golf Classic presented by Liberty Bank completed action on Sunday at the Hot Springs Country Club with day one leaders Marcus Huffer and Wayne Koekemoer holding on to first place with a gross score of 58 – 63 = 121 (-23) capturing the Championship Flight.

Harold Perrin and Wixon Huffstetler finished two-strokes back from the lead at -21 for second and Bruce Baxley and Ralph Haymond were five strokes back from the lead at -18 for third.

The 61-team field was broken into eight flights, each having three to four winners. Action began at 8 a.m. with the maximum number of teams in the field on day two after having a full round on Saturday followed by a dinner and silent auction.

"We had another tremendous tournament in Hot Springs," said Associate AD for External Operations & Red Wolf Club Director Doug Doggett. "It's a great weekend for Arkansas State and the athletic department when you see so much support and enthusiasm for our programs."

The proceeds from the tournament go to the Red Wolf Club, which serves as the principal fundraising arm of the ASU Athletic Department, and the ASU men's and women's golf programs.

The Red Wolf Club helps provide scholarships for more than 325 student-athletes in ASU's 16 varsity sports, and ended the 2009 fiscal year with record donations, and the month of April set a record for the highest donations in a single month in the history of the Club.

Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe served as the tournament's Honorary Chairman, while Senator Paul Bookout of Jonesboro served as the Honorary Co-Chairman.
