MOUNTAIN HOME, AR (KAIT) – According to reports,  a man who's filed as a write-in candidate for the office of Baxter County Sheriff was arrested Sunday and charged with battery.

After witnesses allegedly watched Richard Mortvedt, 40 of Mountain Home assault an 18-year-old in a Wal-Mart parking lot, Mortvedt—registered in April as a write-in candidate for the sheriff's position--was charged with third degree battery.

When officers responded to the scene, Mortvedt was given a citation and taken to the Baxter County Detention Center.

He was able to post his $500 bond and is now released.
