DONIPHAN (KFVS) - Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau is teaming up with a Bootheel hospital to bring better care to the rural areas of southeast Missouri.
Tuesday, leaders with Southeast Hospital and Ripley County Memorial Hospital announced their first step in a plan to bring Southeast care to rural areas.
They, along with Ripley County leaders, announced the plan during a meeting Tuesday morning in Doniphan.
Southeast Hospital officials say they'll give $350,000 to the hospital as a sort of pre-paid rent to set up shop at Ripley County mMmorial.
A study over the next several weeks will determine what kind of services are most needed in the Ripley County area.
The results of that study will help Southeast Hospital figure out the type of support they'll provide.
Ripley County Memorials Administrator, Bob Garrison, says the hospitals future depends on this kind of support.
"The range has broadened tremendously," said Garrison. "They're offering things today at Southeast Hospital that we couldn't think of offering here, and certainly the thought of implementing some outpatient clinics in the specialty areas is a very, very strong possibility."
Southeast Hospital President Debbie Linnes says she hopes the partnership will be in place in about 60 to 90 days.
Linnes says she hopes this will bring specialized care not just to Ripley County but the entire Bootheel.
