Hayti, MO (KAIT) – A former Region 8 police officer is accused of stealing guns from his department's evidence room.

24-year-old Zack Martin of Hayti, Missouri, turned himself into authorities on Thursday.

Pemiscot County Sheriff Tommy Greenwell says an investigation began in March after some items were reported missing from the Cooter Police Department's evidence room.  Investigators say two pistols and a portable breath test were taken.

According to Greenwell's office Martin was questioned about the theft and confessed.

On Thursday Martin was arraigned on charges of felony stealing.  He posted $15,000 bond and was released.

In addition to the Cooter Police Department, Martin has also worked for other agencies in Pemiscot and New Madrid Counties.
