JONESBORO, Ark. (8/6/10) - The Arkansas State soccer teams began preparation for the 2010 season, the 11th in program history, Friday holding their first day of practice at the ASU Soccer Complex.
Practice began with an early morning training session at 7:30 a.m. and continued with an evening practice at 5 p.m.
The Red Wolves welcomed 24 players to campus on Thursday night as the team officially reported holding their first team meetings. ASU had eight newcomers, which included seven freshmen and a transfer, and 16 letter winners also returned for the Red Wolves.
This will also mark the first fall camp for head coach Tafadzwa Ziyenge who is in his first season at the helm of the Red Wolves program. ASU is coming off its best season in program history as the squad went 8-10-4 and advanced to the semifinals of the Sun Belt Tournament. ASU also set numerous team and individual records during the 2009 campaign.
The Red Wolves open the 2010 season at home hosting Tennessee-Martin at the ASU Soccer Complex on Aug. 22. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. against the Skyhawks.
