LITTLE ROCK, AR (KAIT) – United States District Judge James M. Moody has sentenced Joseph Mulherin,21, to 360 months (30 years) of imprisonment for producing child pornography.

According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office, the White County Sheriff's Office became aware of Mulherin's possible activity on March 10, 2009 when someone had informed them of an online conversation they had with him. The person said Mulherin had shared a deep dark secret that he liked boys and girls ranging from ages four to twelve.

The press release also says on the same day, White County Sheriff's Deputies went to Mulherin's residence to advise him of the allegations and his Miranda rights. Mulherin then admitted that he viewed and downloaded child pornography.

Several computers were seized from Mulherin's residence and handed over the Secret Service for forensic examination.

One of the hard drives from a seized computer was missing. When asked, Mulherin he confessed that he had molested a child for the past several years and said he had taken nude pictures and saved the images to the missing hard drive to trade online.

Further forensic examinations of the remaining computers revealed many pornographic images involving children.

During the hearing, the Assistant U.S. Attorney presented evidence from two of Mulherin's former cellmates. The evidence included stories and writings Mulherin had authored since his arrest that described the molestation of multiple children in graphic detail.

The documents stated that children are sexual beings and enjoy being abused. Mulherin also wrote that when released, the first thing he would do would be to molest a child.

Mulherin's terms of imprisonment is to be followed by supervised release for the rest of his life.
