Batesville voters give one cent sales tax increase thumbs down

Batesville, AR (KAIT) - In Batesville Tuesday, voters were asked to approve a one cent sales tax increase to pay for a new community center and sports facility.

The vote came in at a very close margin.

The measure lost by 70 votes, with 1,056 voting for the increase and 1,126 voting against it.

Had the measure passed, it would have been the city's second sales tax increase in two years.

Last year, a measure for a one cent increase passed to pay for a new wastewater treatment plant.
