JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The summer months are coming to a close and school is almost back in session.
As a result, the Craighead County Jonesboro Public Library held an unusual event to hopefully give parents a hand.
The public was invited to come out and get one-on-one cooking lessons from Kathy Cardwell with Loretta's catering.
The purpose of the event was to introduce people to foods that are tasty, healthy, and fun!
Director of the Craighead County Jonesboro Public Library, Phyllis Burkett, says it's sometimes a struggle to figure out what your kids will eat!
"Certainly healthy lunches is something important for children. As well as cost and those kinds of things. And knowing what your kids like versus what's being served in the school cafeteria. Sometimes it'll ensure that they eat something that they really like."
Parents were taught a variety of different kid-friendly snacks and salads.
For instance, they learned how to make ham, bean and pineapple salad.
Also, pesto pasta salad and chicken noodle salad.
Cardwell says the trick is to provide tasty snacks the kids don't realize is good for them!!
Burkett says the events they choose are ones they hope will inform, entertain and help the public they work to serve.
