Scotty Thurman returns to Arkansas, on staff

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Scotty Thurman, whose 3-pointer at the buzzer against Duke in 1994 made the Razorbacks that year's national champions, is returning to Arkansas as a member of the basketball support staff.

The school said Wednesday that Thurman will be director of student-athlete development. The announcement also included another staff addition, Sean Dwyer as video coordinator.

Thurman, a 1993-1995 Razorback, ranks 10th on Arkansas' all-time scoring list with 1,650 points and holds the team's single-season record for 3-point baskets, 102.

"I am very excited to bring Scotty back to Fayetteville to be a member of our staff," Arkansas coach John Pelphrey said. "He is a quality individual who will quickly develop a strong relationship with our players."

Thurman's job calls for him to design and implement programs focusing on off-the-court development, mentor players, help plan and execute community-service projects and implement a project to keep former Razorbacks connected with the men's basketball program.
