Burglars pick wrong house to attempt break-in

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - A mid-Missouri sheriff's deputy was ready and waiting when two men tried to break into his house in the middle of the night. Boone County Sheriff's Detective Tom O'Sullivan describes the would-be robbers as "just two drunk guys looking to commit a burglary."

The Columbia Daily Tribune reports the unidentified Boone County deputy was awakened by noises outside his Columbia home around 3 a.m. Friday. The deputy grabbed a gun and called 911, then watched two men sprint toward his front porch and kick in the door.

They tried to leave, but he was able to detain them without firing a shot. Charges were pending against the two men, ages 48 and 64, whom the deputy was holding when police arrived.
