BLOOMFIELD, MO (KAIT) – A Region 8 jury took 20 minutes to convict a sex offender of molesting two young girls in a Bloomfield home in 2009.

According to the Stoddard County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, Charles Copen Jr. was found guilty of two counts of first-degree child molestation. Prosecutors say Copen was convicted of subjecting the 3 and 4-year-old girls to sexual contact.

Prosecutors say this is the fourth prison sentence for Copen, who faces a 10-30 years or life in prison. The most Copen could get is 2 consecutive life sentences, and the least he could receive is 10 years to run concurrent on each count.

Because he was charged as a prior and persistent offender, the judge will announce the sentencing and not the jury.

Copen is currently in the New Madrid County Jail, and is due back in court on September 14.
