Jonesboro (ASU) – The Arkansas State men's basketball team will play in the 2010 Dick's Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off facing no. 6-seeded Missouri State in opening round action.
The Red Wolves will play in the South Regional held on the campus of the University of Tennessee in Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville, Tenn. The regional bracket will also feature No. 2-seeded Tennessee playing Belmont.
"We are extremely excited to take part in the NIT Season Tip-Off," said ASU head coach John Brady. "It will be an early test for our basketball team but it is a test we feel we will be ready for."
The winner of the ASU/Missouri State game will play the winner of the Tennessee/Belmont game while the losers will face off in the consolation game.
The winner of the regional bracket will move on to play the east regional winner at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 24. The teams in the east regional are Wake Forest, Hampton, VCU and Winthrop. The championship game of the tournament and the consolation bracket will be played Nov. 26 in Madison Square Garden.
The Red Wolves return four of five starters from last season's squad which posted a 17-14 record including an 11-7 Sun Belt Conference mark advancing to the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Tournament.
