Damaged Region 8 school ready to open

WALNUT RIDGE, AR (KAIT) - In June the Walnut Ridge Elementary School was damaged when a car slammed into the building.  Two months after the accident that happened at the end of the school year things are back to normal.

Lawrence County School District Superintendent Terry Belcher said there was no structural damage to the building.  he said most of the damage was cosmetic.

"We got a local contractor to fix our building.  They put a new air package in it and fixed the column that was hit.  They called the roof people to fix the roof and it's back in operation," said Belcher.

Sergeant Jeff Franks with the Walnut Ridge Police department says the driver, Rodney Jones has been charged with a DWI, reckless driving, and criminal mischief for the damage done to the building.
