WALNUT RIDGE, AR (KAIT) - A new school year means new construction for one Region 8 school. Because of growth over the years, students and teachers are running out of room. A parking lot and empty property next to the football field is where the new building will be built.
When finished, the building will house science, fine arts and physical education classrooms. Superintendent Terry Belcher of the Lawrence County School District said while they don't know the final cost for the building the state is helping to fund it.
"We applied for partnership money with the state and they are paying over $2,000,000 for it. We are asking voters to allow us to refinance some of our debt. We're not asking for a millage to pay for the building," said Belcher.
In the days leading up to the start of school they are also putting in $45,000 in play ground equipment.
