JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – A Jonesboro doctor and lawyer's office was damaged by a late afternoon fire Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Jonesboro Fire Department, the call came in around 3pm for a commercial structure fire in downtown. When fire crews arrived heavy smoke could be seen coming from the building.

After firefighters started to enter the building, flames were seen shooting through the roof. Fire crews were able to clear people from the first floor of the building, and say no one was on the 2nd floor when the fire broke out.

One floor of the building is the doctor offices of Dr. Larry Felts, while the other floor is houses the law office of Martha Gilpatrick.

After firefighters were able to extinguish the flames, they began trying to save patient records that were covered with water while crews battled the flames.

Firefighters spent about 3 hours putting out hot spots. No one was injured in the blaze. People inside the building told Region 8 News they smelled smoke coming from the attic area of the building, and then started to evacuate after calling 9-1-1.

The building suffered heavy damage in the blaze, the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
