WASHINGTON --The nation's terror alert has been downgraded from orange to yellow. The Homeland Security Department has lowered the status signaling an ``elevated'' risk of attack.

The Bush administration had put the alert at orange ten days ago, after terror attacks in Saudi Arabia and Morocco. It had feared the attacks could signal a new wave of attacks on targets worldwide, including Americans.

There were concerns that attacks could happen over the Memorial Day weekend. The government now says there's been a drop in intelligence pointing to an imminent attack. Orange and yellow remain the only levels on the scale that have been used since the color-coded system was adopted more than a year ago.
