JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The Jonesboro Police Department Prowl Officers were out this afternoon issuing citations to several local businesses after finding drug paraphernalia and other items for sale. Officers served search warrants at nine different businesses and say they've warned them several times to take the items off the shelf.

Seven citations were issued. Police found glass pipes commonly used for crack and meth, hookahs and pipes used for smoking marijuana, digital scales used to weigh out controlled substances, as well as some pseudoephedrine and ephedrine products. Officers say it's been an on going problem.

"Probably a thousand pipes. It was a lot more than what we were expecting find. We thought each business would have one of two boxes of crack pipes and box of meth pipes here and there but we found a lot more stuff than we were anticipating," says Cassie Brandon with the Jonesboro Police Department.

Businesses with crack and marijuana pipes were charged with operating an illegal drug paraphernalia business, while those with meth pipes and other items were charged with possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to deliver. Police say the operation was a huge success. A court date for all the businesses has been sent for September 8th.

Businesses searched are a follows:

Downtown Express Mart 215 West Huntington, Ricks Quick Shop 519 East Johnson, Main Street Exxon 207 North Main, Clarks Convenience Store 4502 East Nettleton, Jordan's Quick Stop 3915 East Highland Drive, Shop and Go 5514 South Stadium Blvd., Shell 1325 South Caraway, Jordan's Quick Stop 400 Southwest Drive, Bills Super Foods 725 East Johnson. Miscanthus has proven to be a very risky crop in Region 8 as well as unpopular. However, it is not as easy to get rid of as many would think.
