Pair of players leave Memphis football program

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A pair of football players have opted out

of the Memphis Tigers program as the start of the season nears.

The Memphis Commercial Appeal reports that running back Ketaraus

Stanton, an academic non-qualifier and member of coach Larry

Porter's 2010 signing class, did not report when camp opened

earlier this month.

Stanton, 6-1 and 230 pounds, is at Angelina College in his

hometown of Lufkin, Texas, and will play baseball there with the

intention of making himself eligible for the 2011 Major League

Baseball first-year player draft.

Junior defensive back Clay Lee has also left the program. Porter

says Lee will likely will play for a non-Football Bowl Subdivision

team in his home state of Florida, looking for increased playing

time.
