North Texas' Julie Lackey wins SBC Women's Soccer Player of the Week

NEW ORLEANS - Julie Lackey, who registered seven points over the weekend for North Texas, has been named the first Sun Belt Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the 2010 season, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Lackey, a Humble, Texas native, netted three goals and an assist during the first weekend of play for the Mean Green. The junior scored twice and added an assist in a dominating 8-0 win over Texas Southern on Friday night before coming up with a clutch game winning goal in the 76th minute against Missouri State on Sunday.

The multi-goal game on Friday by Lackey was just the second multi-goal game of junior's career at North Texas. The five points scored were a career-best for the defender.

Additionally, several other SBC teams were in action over the weekend with three other teams picking up victories. Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe and Troy each opened the season victories. ULL is off to the team's best start in program history (2-0-0) while also earning back-to-back shutouts for the first time since the 2005 season.

Troy, led by freshman Maddie Tieken's hat trick, downed Wofford 6-1. The three goals scored by Tieken were the most goals scored in a collegiate debut in school history. It was the fifth consecutive season the Trojans won their season-opener.

Louisiana-Monroe opened the 2010 season with a win as they defeated Central Arkansas 1-0 at home.

Defending SBC Tournament Champion,  Denver, opens the 2010 season on Friday, August 27 at Loyola Marymount before traveling back home to Denver to take on Buffalo on Sunday, August 29.
