JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -- When Pastor Herschel Richardson started Christ Way United Methodist Church two and half years ago, the congregation moved from place to place to worship--even setting up at the YMCA.
"We'd set up every Friday and breakdown every Sunday after our service," said Richardson.
He says they wanted desperately to plant roots in Jonesboro.
"We'd pray every week and just ask God to give us a permanent home," said Richardson.
Richardson says their prayers were answered. Their last move about a year ago, became the church's final home.
"What a blessing it is to be able to be here," said Richardson.
Richardson says they were leasing this building, when they got a tremendous gift. The owner of the property gave them the building and the land it's sitting on.
"I was just so thankful, I mean I was kind of just blown away,"said Richardson.
To says thanks, Richardson doesn't have to go far. Businessman Frank Fletcher, owner of Fletcher Dodge in Jonesboro, donated the land and the church sits right behind his dealership.
"It just made business sense to go ahead to do that and help them and help the community and the community has been good to Fletcher Dodge Chrysler Jeep," said Jon Moore of Fletcher Auto Group.
Jon Moore says he's watched the church and services it offers grow, and he's hopeful this donation will help continue that.
"If we can help out the community and we know that we've got good people that are going to continue to help out the community that's all we could ask for," said Moore.
Pastor Richardson says he's not taking this gift for granted. He says he knows they've been blessed with this donation, and the church's efforts to give to others is its way of giving back too.
"As I tell our congregation, to who much is given, much is required. The Lord hasn't blessed us with this nice facility for us to just sit and be comfortable.>
