MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) - A spokesman for federal arson investigators says a fire that damaged construction equipment at the site of an Islamic center in suburban Nashville is still under investigation.
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives spokesman Eric Kehn said Sunday his department is working with the FBI and the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office to determine what happened at the site early Saturday morning.
A spokeswoman for the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro says the fire has frightened Muslims in the community. The center has been in the community for decades, and the new facility represents an expansion. Opponents, while citing traffic and parking issues, have also implied the center would be a haven for terrorists.
