Batesville, AR (Lyon) - Serhiy Zhykin provided a heroic game-winning goal in the 74th minute of a 2-1 Lyon College Scots' victory over Spring Hill at Huser Field in the two team's season opener.
With both teams tied at one in the second half, Zhykin took a pass from Robert Hall and bounced a shot over a diving Corey Bronencamp and into the net for the golden goal.
Martel Reid-Warden drew first blood for the Scots in the first half with the first goal of his Lyon College career. Reid-Warden took a pass in succession from Bill Jeffries and Gueorgui (Georg-gee) Tchamkoriyski (Cham-kori-eeski) and then dented the net in the 3rd minute to give the home team a 1-0 advantage.
Spring Hill scored its only goal of the game in the second half, when Bryce Privitt's shot found its mark to tie the game at one.
Matt Kelly and Thomas Guarino split time in goal for the Scots. Kelly played 45 scoreless minutes in the first half and stopped three shots. Guarino (1-0-0) played the entire second half, allowed one goal and had three saves.
The Scots play again in a non-conference game on Sept. 1st at Rhodes College. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. in Memphis.
