Little Rock (Lyon) - The Lyon College Scots took a 3-1 decision from Philander Smith and battled Mississippi Valley State in a five-set loss on Saturday afternoon in non-conference road action.
The Scots (1-1) topped PSC by scores of 25-16, 16-25, 25-22 and 25-21 and lost the second match to MSVS by a 21-25, 25-23, 25-13, 23-25 and 12-15.
Lyon's Kristen Margrabe had a team-high six kills in the Philander Smith match and teammate Destiny Gordon had a game-high 17 digs.
In the second match, Scots' senior Meghann LaBorn, Chelsea Hinton and Suzanne Fincham all accounted for double-digit kill nights. LaBorn had a team-high 14 kills, collected five blocks and notched a .464 hitting percentage. Hinton earned 12 kills, served two aces and picked up 16 digs. Fincham hit .333 at the net and scored 11 kills.
Audrey Myers led the Scots with 26 digs, Danielle Reed had 26 assists and Bre Wright added 20 assists. Reed also had four aces and three blocks in the MSVS match.
The Scots hit the hardwood again on Tuesday for their TranSouth Conference opener at Union University. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in Jackson, Tenn.
