Police: fight leads to Region 8 man in critical condition and drug charges

LAWRENCE COUNTY, AR (KAIT) – A Region 8 man is behind bars after a fight leads police to find drugs and a gun in his truck.

According to the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department, they received a 9-1-1 call about a man being unconscious outside his home Friday night.

When police arrived on scene they found Steve Lawson unconscious, and had to air-evac him to the Med in Memphis in critical condition.

Police arrested Travis Halter after police say he and Lawson got into a fight after a night of drinking.

Police ran a check on Halter, who they found out was on probation. When police searched his truck they found marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and a rifle.

Halter was placed under arrest and is being charged with battery in the second degree, possession of a controlled substance, felon in possession of a firearm, simultaneous possession of drugs, firearms, and possession of drug paraphernalia.  Halter's bond was set at $150,000.

At last report Lawson remains in critical condition at The Med in Memphis.
