Blood donors honored by Red Cross

Jonesboro, AR (KAIT)- Every two seconds, someone in America needs blood. The American Red Cross helps by donating hundreds of blood products to area hospitals daily. Thursday in Jonesboro,  the Red Cross gave back to those who've been giving a lot.

Veronica Hawes and Phoebe Harp were awarded prizes for their life-saving donations of blood and platelets. Both women say they give because it's something they can do to help someone else.  Harp says "it (platelets) is not able to be stored very long and so its important to give regularly and that's what I try to do" while Hawes says "the need for blood is so much greater than what I would have ever thought so I gave it the first time and I even started coming back regularly to give whenever I could".
