Bloomington, Ind. (9/4/10) – The Arkansas State volleyball team fell to 2-4 overall after dropping road matches to North Carolina State (5-0) and Illinois State (4-2) Saturday at the IU adidas Classic in Bloomington, Ind.
NC State swept the Red Wolves 3-0 (25-10, 25-21, 25-18) in the first match of the day, while A-State tried to rally back in the second match, forcing Illinois State into five sets (21-25, 24-26, 25-20, 25-21, 15-9).
Against NC State, junior Cayla Fielder led the offensive effort with seven kills, while sophomore Jasmine Terry and freshman Ashley Tipps each added six. Terry and Tipps also both recorded four blocks in the match, and freshman libero Megan Baska led the team with nine digs.
Fielder led the Red Wolves' offense again in the second match, matching her career-high 22 kills for the second time this season. Tipps and Terry followed again, pounding out 16 and 11 kills respectively. Fielder also led the team with five total blocks, including two unassisted, and Baska chalked up 19 digs.
Sophomore setter Allison Kearney earned all-tournament honors, finishing the weekend with 69 assists, 20 digs, four kills, four blocks and two service aces.
The Red Wolves will return to action Friday Sept. 10 when they travel to Tulsa, Okla. for matchups with Tulsa and Lamar. Friday's contest with Tulsa is set to begin at 11:00 a.m., and ASU will face Lamar at 3:00 p.m. that day. Arkansas State and Lamar will meet again Saturday, Sept. 11 at 1:00 p.m.
