Arkansas Tech Volleyball receives 17 votes in AVCA Division II Top 25

Lexington, KY (ATU) - Arkansas Tech Volleyball made history on Tuesday as the Golden Suns earned its first-ever votes in the AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) NCAA Division II Coaches' Poll Top 25 Poll.

Tech, who is sporting a 4-1 record on the season after collecting a five-set win Monday at East Central, received 17 points in this week's first poll of the regular season to be fifth among the 10 teams earning votes.

The Golden Suns are one of three Gulf South Conference schools that are either ranked or receiving votes in this week's poll as West Florida (3-0) is ranked 25th, while Harding (4-0) earned 16 votes this week.

Concordia-St. Paul (3-1), the three-time defending NCAA D-II National Champions, continues to sit atop the AVCA D-II Coaches' Poll as the Golden Bears earned 23 first place votes and 766 points. Tampa (3-1) moved up one spot to No. 2 this week as the Spartans earned two first place votes and 741 points, while Cal State San Bernardino (3-1) fell one spot to No. 3 as they earned two first place votes and 697 points. Washburn (4-0) jumps two spots to No. 4 as the Lady Blues earned three first place votes and 673 points and Minnesota-Duluth (3-0) rounds out the Top 5 at No. 5.

Saint Leo (4-0) begins the next five at No. 6 as they earned the final two first place votes and 585 points, while Nebraska-Kearney (3-1) jumps six spots to No. 7 this week and Indianapolis (3-1) falls four spots to No. 8. Central Missouri (2-2) falls four spots to No. 9 and Southwest Minnesota State (4-0) leaps five spots to No. 10 this week.

UC-San Diego (3-1) headlines the next 10 at No. 11 and they are followed by Metro State (3-1) at No. 12 and Emporia State (3-1) falls one spot to No. 13. Lewis [IL] (5-0) jumps two spots to No. 14 and is followed by Truman (4-0) at No. 15 and West Texas A&M (3-1) at No. 16. Minnesota State (4-0) jumps one spot to No. 17, while Western Washington (3-1) jumps into this week's poll at No. 18. Wayne State [NE] (4-0) and Pittsburg State (3-1) round out this week's Top 20 at Nos. 19 and 20 respectively.

The final five of the poll begins with Cal State-L.A. (3-1) at No. 21, while Flagler (4-0) jumps one spot to No. 22 and Alaska-Anchorage (4-2) advances one spot to No. 23. Hillsdale (3-1) and West Florida round out this week's poll at Nos. 24 and 25 respectively.

Tech will return to action this coming weekend as they travel to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., to compete in the Nova Southeastern Sharks Volleyball Classic. Tech will open the tournament on Friday, Sept. 10 at 8 a.m. CST against the University of the District Columbia, before facing Lynn [FL] at 12:30 CST. On Saturday, Sept. 11, Tech will conclude the tournament against Barry [FL] at 8 a.m. CST and the host school, Nova Southeastern at 12:30 p.m. CST. Lynn and Barry, like Tech, both received votes in this week's AVCA D-II Coaches' Top 25 Poll.
