Little Rock (ASU) - The Arkansas State women's cross country team placed six runners in the top 18, including a first-place finish from freshman Kristina Aubert to dominate the UALR Invitational Friday afternoon at Rebsamen Golf Course.
Aubert ran the 5K course in 18:15:94, almost a full minute ahead of the next competitor, while senior Dawn L'Heureux finished third with a time of 19:23:83. Sophomore Samantha Salinas ran sixth at 19:41:10 followed by junior Chelsea Weaver in seventh at 19:42:04.
Senior Bailey Bunyan led the Red Wolves on the men's side, finishing ninth at 15:41:05.
"The women's team had an outstanding day," said ASU head coach Lon Badeaux. "Kristina took control of the race at about one mile and never looked back, winning by over a minute on a very hot and humid day that wasn't exactly conducive for fast times. I was very pleased with our two-through-six runners running in a pack, particularly L'Heureux who was barely nipped for 2nd at the line."
"Bailey Bunyan is having a very good senior year for the men placing 9th," added Badeaux. "The men's team success was a bit hampered by not having James Ngwiri in the race due to a slight injury."
Also finishing strong for the ASU women were sophomore Reilly McAtee, who finished 14th with a time of 19:55:51 and junior Sydney Forman with a time of 20:18:48 to finish 18th. For the ASU men, senior Terell Pigram finished 23rd with a time of 16:51:37, sophomore David Mills came in 31st at 17:11:19, senior Derell Pigram ran 34th with a time of 17:17:77 and sophomore Brian Becton crossed the line with a time of 17:20:81 to finish 37th.
The ASU cross country teams will be off until Sept. 25, when they run in the Memphis Twilight Classic.
