Tulsa, OK (ASU) - The volleyball Red Wolves (4-5) posted a 3-2 victory over Lamar (3-6) in the final game of the Radisson Tulsa Airport Invitational in Tulsa, Okla. Saturday afternoon.
Lamar took the first set 25-23, but Arkansas State bounced back to take sets two and three (25-19, 25-10). The Cardinals used a close 25-23 win in set four to force a match-deciding fifth set, but the Red Wolves came out on top by a score of 15-11 in set five.
"We struggled killing the ball and scoring points early, but we settled in and began producing while committing very few errors in sets two and three," said ASU head coach Justin Ingram. "I'm proud of the team's ability to change during the course of the match. We competed hard and wanted to win."
Four Red Wolves saw double-digit kills against the Cardinals, including junior Cayla Fielder with 19, sophomore Jasmine Terry with 12 and freshmen Sadie Clark and Taylor Szypulski with 11 and 10 respectively. Freshman Megan Baska led the defense with 26 digs, while Szypulski posted 11. Fielder added a team-high eight blocks, while Terry and Clark each recorded four.
Fielder and Baska earned all-tournament honors for their performances over the weekend. Fielder totaled 45 kills and 15 blocks, and Baska chalked up 72 digs and four service aces.
