LEE COUNTY, Ark. -- Arkansas corrections department officials say the death of a Region 8 inmate was an accident.
The victim, 39-year-old James Peterson, broke his neck yesterday when the horse he was riding reared and threw him off.
Peterson was bringing horses out of a barn for the day's work assignments at the prison unit near Brickeys in Lee County.
A corrections spokesperson says Peterson had worked in the horse stables for most of the time of his incarceration, and was considered an experienced rider.
