Jonesboro (ASU) – An Arkansas State University Homecoming tradition continues with the seventh annual A-State Open Oct. 1 at Sage Meadows Golf Course in Jonesboro. The four-person golf scramble will start at 10 a.m., one day before the Red Wolves football team hosts Louisville in its 6:00 p.m. Homecoming game.
This year's winner will receive a prize package that includes two rounds of championship golf at historic Pinehurst Numbers 2 and 4. The prize also includes deluxe accommodations for three days and two nights, transportation to and from the Raleigh/Durham Airport and a gift pack with team uniforms.
"This golf tournament is always a lot of fun, and I'm so excited to offer this once in a lifetime opportunity to the winners of our event," said Doug Doggett, Associate Athletic Director for External Operations and Director of the Red Wolf Club. "The real winners, of course, are our student-athletes and the athletic programs that benefit from the proceeds. Plus, it's a great way for our fans to connect and kick-off the Homecoming weekend."
The A-State Open marks the end of the ASU Red Wolf Club golf tour as championship teams from the Newport, Paragould, Blytheville and Osceola Scarlet Scrambles compete in the championship flight. The second flight consists of ASU Lettermen and brings in former ASU student-athletes from as far away as Connecticut and Florida. The third flight is the open flight, and is open to anyone who would like to participate.
The A-State Open is one of the first events celebrating the Homecoming weekend at Arkansas State University. There is still room for additional lettermen and open golfers. Registration begins at 10:00 a.m., and the shotgun start will be at 11:00 a.m. For more information or to enter the tournament, call the ASU Red Wolf Club at 870-972-2401.
