Jonesboro (ASU) – Arkansas State peppered SEMO with six shots in the final ten-minutes of action but were unable to score the tying goal as time expired, giving SEMO the 1-0 win at the ASU Soccer Complex Sunday afternoon.
Arkansas State fell to 4-3-1 on the season, dropping its second straight match while SEMO improved to 4-3. The match was the final nonconference matchup for the Red Wolves who open Sun Belt Conference play at Florida Atlantic on Friday.
"We missed some good opportunities today to put the game away; these are the pains of having a team that is so young. Because sometimes it takes time to learn these things, but, I have not given up I still know we are going to have a good season," said ASU head coach Tafadzwa Ziyenge. "We would have liked to have won our last nonconference game but it didn't happen obviously. You win some you lose some that's the name of the game, just another tale of missed chances for us."
ASU outshot SEMO 17-6 taking seven shots on goal to the Redhawks three with 14 of those total shots coming in the second half.
Junior forward Michele Clark led all players with four shots, two of which were on goal for the Red Wolves. Junior forward Kelsey Finders was second on the field with three shots for ASU.
The lone goal of the match came in the 59th minute (58:16) when Coutney Luehmann fired back a clear-out to the left side, one-timing the ball past ASU goalkeeper Susan Brown.
Brown made one save in goal for ASU while her counterpart Ashton Aubuchon made seven.
