Region 8 man dead in shooting, another in critical condition

NEW MADRID COUNTY, MO (KAIT) – A Region 8 man is killed, another in critical condition after a shooting in New Madrid County Sunday night.

According to Terry Stevens, the New Madrid County Sheriff, Lonnie Moore shot Leonard Thomas in the head, and then turned the gun on himself.

Moore died from the self-inflicted gunshot, while Thomas was airlifted to The Med in Memphis in critical condition.

Sheriff Steven's said his deputies got a call around 8pm Sunday night of a shooting at Moore's home in North Lilbourn. When deputies arrived they found Thomas lying on the floor with a gunshot wound to the head. Police then found Moore dead inside the home.

Police say witnesses told them the two men had been arguing earlier in the day.

The New Madrid County Sheriff's Department is continuing to investigate the shooting. Moore's body has been sent off for an autopsy.
