JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Make a Difference Monday is back for the month of September, as volunteers filled the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas.
Faye Cox with the Woman's Discovery Center says it's more than an opportunity to help the organizations in Jonesboro that help others, but it's also a chance to learn.
"Volunteers have also had the opportunity to see exactly why the food bank needs the new building they've been working on. That will allow them to serve so many more hungry families and we're excited to be a part of allowing volunteers and community members to see just what that need is."
Director of Development for the food bank, Vicki Pillow, says they couldn't help the people they do without the help of volunteers.
"We have a very small staff here at the food bank so volunteers are crucial to us and we're so grateful. We just couldn't do what we do without volunteers."
Faye says they've been working hard, but productively. "Volunteers , today, have had the opportunity to actually help stock the shelves of the food bank. Huge donations have come in just in time. The shelves were beginning to get bare. Some donations came in today, so, we were just in time to help them do some much needed work."
The food bank serves five thousand one hundred people per week in Northeast Arkansas' twelve counties!
Vicki Pillow,"That's a huge amount. Arkansas has the third highest incidents of hunger in the country. So, we need everybody to be able to help those who are hungry."
In November, Make a Difference will be taking the wish lists from all the foster children in Craighead County and working to fill it.
