ASU's M.D. Jennings named CFPA Honorable Mention

Jonesboro (ASU) – Arkansas State senior safety M.D. Jennings (Calhoun City, Miss.) has been selected a national Honorable Mention Defensive Back of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) for his outstanding play in the Red Wolves' 34-20 victory over Louisiana-Monroe last Saturday.

The College Football Performance Awards performers of the week are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams.  Jennings received the weekly honorable mention defensive back honor along with Anthony Gaitor (FIU), A.J. Butler (New Mexico), Jarvis Phillips (Texas Tech), Desmond Marrow (Toledo), Todd Washington (Memphis), Patrick Peterson (LSU), Morris Claiborne (LSU), Stephon Gilmore (South Carolina), Rashad Carmichael (Virginia Tech), Eddie Foster (Vanderbilt), Norman Wolfe (Kent State), Damion Fletcher (Ohio) and Marlon Johnson (Nevada).

Jennings recorded six tackles and a career-high two interceptions against ULM.  Jennings' six tackles were the third most on the team and he returned his two interceptions a career-best 62 yards.  He returned his first interception late in the second quarter a career-high 42 yards to secure a 15-point lead for ASU at halftime.

His second interception came in the third quarter and stopped a ULM drive that reached ASU's 17-yard line.  The Red Wolves scored a field goal on the drive immediately following Jennings' second interception to take a 31-14 lead with 9:31 left in the game.  The ULM game marked the second time over the last three weeks Jennings has played a part in at least one turnover, also posting a forced fumble and fumble recovery against Auburn.

Jennings was also named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 6 after recording a team-high 11 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, a fumble recovery and forced fumble against Auburn.  Jennings currently leads A-State in tackles with 20 for the season.
