JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Arkansas State University celebrated "Constitution Day" in the Student Union, Wednesday.
Over two hundred students from all over Region 8 gathered in Centennial Hall to listen to representatives from all three campaigns speak.
This year's program focused on Article I of the Constitution, the Legislative Branch.
Focus groups were also set up throughout the event discussing particular topics relating to the Constitution and our government. Focus group topics included "The Congressional Branch of Government: What Do You Know?" and "A Woman's Place is in the House (and in the Senate)."
Interim Dead of Humanities and Social Sciences, Carol O'Connor, says students walk away from this event with new knowledge and respect.
"I think they get a respect for how long our country has endured. How we've overcome a variety of crises and what an amazing document we have that's guided our country over the last two hundred and forty years," O'Connor said.
This was the sixth year for ASU to hold "Constitution Day". The event commemorates the 223rd anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution.
