MARKED TREE, AR (KAIT) – A Region 8 man charged with rape has been sentenced to 30 years behind bars.
According to the Poinsett County Circuit Clerk's Office, Gaylon Hinds was sentenced late Monday to 30 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction, and then 30 years SIS. Suspended imposition of sentence or SIS is defined as a sentencing option available to the trial court. Usually the defendant is placed on probation, and they violate probation they may face revocation.
Hinds was arrested by Marked Tree Police after a complaint was filed on September 30, 2009, with the Arkansas State Police Crimes Against Children Division.
After an investigation police arrested Hinds. Police say Hinds raped a 12-year-old girl and her cousin. The complaint alleges Hinds had sexual encounters with one of the victims ten times between July and September 2009.
Hinds was interviewed several times on camera, and police say he admitted to the allegations with one of the victims but denied having sexual encounters with the second girl.
