AR hospital adds beds for psychiatric services

HOT SPRINGS, AR (AP) - A Hot Springs hospital has added 12 beds for its psychiatric services department, making that unit 1 of the largest of its type in Arkansas.

John Downes, the new medical director of Levi Hospital Adult Psychiatric Services, says the increase in beds is in response to an increased demand for inpatient psychiatric services.

The Sentinel-Record reports that the hospital's psychiatric services department now will be able to accommodate 34 patients.

Downes says that patients who previously have had to wait to be transported to hospitals in Little Rock now will be able to be treated in Hot Springs.
