Jackson Co., Ark., couple found dead in bathroom

NEWPORT, Ark. (AP) - The Jackson County sheriff says a man is in custody after investigating deputies found him in a home where the bodies of a man and woman were lying on a bathroom floor.

The Batesville Daily Guard newspaper said Sheriff David Lucas issued a news release that reported 41-year-old Gary Paul Henley was being held in the county jail at Newport.

According to the release, Henley said he was stabbed in an attack about 10:25 p.m. Tuesday by 45-year-old Steven Lynn Bridgman and 48-year-old Ina Lynn Bridgman at a home in the Weldon community about 10 miles south of Newport.

Lucas said Henley called his wife and told her that he didn't think the pair was breathing, and she called 911. The sheriff said that, when deputies arrived at the home, they found Henley with non-life-threatening injuries, and the Bridgmans dead on the bathroom floor, apparently from gunshot and knife wounds.
