Divers search for man in NE Arkansas river

NEWPORT, Ark. (AP) - Dive teams are continuing to search for a man who reportedly drowned in the Black River in northeast Arkansas.

Authorities say the drowning occurred early Monday between Newark and Cord on the Jackson County side of the river.

Independence County Sheriff Alan Cockrill says three divers from his office have searched for the man but haven't been able to find him. Cockrill told the Batesville Guard that the fast current may have swept the man's body downstream from where he went into the water.

The man's name and details of his disappearance weren't released.
