ASU Men's Golf 13th after Day 1 of Mason Rudolph Championship

Franklin, TN (ASU) – Competing in its second tournament of the season, the Arkansas State men's golf team shot a first-round 295 to finish the opening day of competition at the Mason Rudolph Championship in 13th place among 17 teams.

The Red Wolves ended the day only one stroke behind 11th place Western Carolina and South Alabama and within 10 strokes of host-school Vanderbilt and South Carolina, which are tied for fourth place.  Memphis and Oklahoma both fired a first-round 274 to lead the field.

Playing in his first tournament as a member of the ASU team, Chance Holden led the Red Wolves with a one-over 72 that leaves him tied for 28th place.  Chris Pledger, who finished a team-best tied for ninth place at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate last week, followed Holden with a 73 to finish tied for 38th place.

Joining Holden and Pledger among the top-50 individual leaders was Wessel Zwiegers, who carded a 74 to finish the first 18 holes tied for 48th place.  Lloyd du Preez is currently tied for 66th place and Cory Williamson tied for 71st after shooting a 76 and 77, respectively.

The three-day tournament will continue Saturday with the second round at the Vanderbilt Legends Club.
